Tēnā koutou katoa

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2025 Aotearoa New Zealand Anaesthesia ASM, in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, New Zealand, at the Claudelands Events Centre.

This meeting is brought to you by the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists (NZSA) and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) New Zealand National Committee.

Our local organising committee from Waikato are looking forward to delivering a high-quality meeting that aims to inspire and connect.

The scientific programme will run from Wednesday 12 to Saturday November 15, 2025. It will captivate you with stimulating sessions from renowned international speakers, as well as from talent closer to home – with topical lectures and a wide range of workshops.

Highlights to look forward to:

  • We are privileged to welcome two international keynote speakers:
    • Dr Michael Kristensen, a Consultant Anesthesiologist at Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark. Michael is a world expert in airway management, and holds numerous positions on International Airway Advisory Committees. His particular interests include upper airway ultrasonography, front of neck access, and difficult airway predictors. He is widely published and offers free resources on airway management. Michael is co-editor of the Society for Airway Management textbook, Core Topics in Airway Management.
    • Professor Fred Mihm is a Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. Fred has over four decades of anaesthesia and critical care experience, with a special interest in high-risk anaesthesia, a series of over 300 patients with pheochromocytoma, as well as numerous overseas volunteer missions. Aside from his routine academic duties, he has assisted in providing anaesthesia on numerous occasions to rare and exotic animal species at San Francisco and San Diego zoos.
    • Unique workshops that will satisfy ANZCA CME requirements and broaden your horizons – including a Thoracics workshop and art tour.
  • Plus, our gala dinner at Hobbiton!

We have an exciting social programme planned, to allow you to mingle and connect. There will be activities in Hamilton and surrounding areas. You can also take this opportunity to explore our region on your own, with many wonderful activities available on our doorstep, including Raglan, Te Awa cycleways and Waitomo caves, all within easy reach.

Don’t miss this experience! We encourage you to register early for this meeting, to take advantage of the excellent educational programme, and to enjoy all that Kirikiriroa Hamilton has to offer.
