Abstract Submissions

Abstract submissions are invited from all delegates for oral or poster presentation at the Aotearoa New Zealand Anaesthesia ASM 2023 to be held in Dunedin from November 9-11, 2023.

There are multiple prizes being offered, including the Best Project with a Healthcare Sustainability focus. Please review the criteria and (if required) indicate during the online submission process whether you wish your paper to be considered for a prize.

Anaesthesia Submissions Submission Process
  • Download the abstract submission template, and write your abstract(s). Save as a separate .doc or .docx file, in an easily accessible location on your computer.
  • You will be required to enter an abstract title, presentation type (oral or poster), authors and their affiliations, prize application, and a short biography of the presenting author for each paper before uploading the abstract document. Please have this information ready before accessing the portal.
  • Access the Presentation Portal below, register with your email address, and submit a password. Update contact information and then follow the instructions. You are able to upload multiple submissions via the one log-in.
  • You may access the presentation portal using your email address and password to upload further abstracts until submissions close on September 17, 2023.
  • You will receive a return email to confirm you have submitted your abstract(s). Contact the Conference Managers, should you not receive this email within 24 hours.
  • Presentation guidelines will be sent to presenting authors upon acceptance of abstracts.

Anaesthesia Submissions Terms and Conditions
  • Abstract submission must be made via the presentation portal and in the correct .doc or .docx format using the template supplied below. Incorrectly formatted abstracts will not be considered for review, and you will be asked to resubmit.
  • Abstracts must not exceed 300 words (this applies to the main body of the abstract, but excludes abstract title, authors and affiliations and references).
  • All abstract content is published as submitted, ensure you have carefully proofed your document prior to upload.
  • Powerpoint presentations may also be published on the meeting website. It essential that the submitting authors obtain written permission to reproduce graphics and that the sources are acknowledged in the abstract.
  • Accepted abstracts may be published in the AIC Journal.
  • All oral and poster presenters are required to register for the meeting. It is expected that oral presenters will be presenting in-person in Dunedin.
  • Oral presentations will be 10 minutes in total, plus 5 minutes of question time.
  • Oral and poster presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts and the Organising Committees’ decision is final.
  • The presenting author must check eligibility for prizes prior to submission, and the Organising Committee, NZSA or ANZCA may remove papers from prize consideration should authors not be eligible, without prior notice.
  • Posters will be displayed throughout the meeting in printed format at the conference venue, in electronic format on the attendee app and on virtual conference platform for the duration of the on-demand content availability. Format instructions will be emailed to accepted poster authors.
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 3, 2023.

Poster Submissions Process, Terms and Conditions

All posters will be required in electronic format.  The pdf of your poster will appear on the on-demand conference platform (for viewing post-conference), on the attendee app and will be printed by the Conference Managers for display at the conference venue. 

If accepted for poster presentation, please use the following information as a guideline when preparing your poster. 

    • All posters should be sized for an A0 portrait print (841 mm wide × 1189 mm high) format.
    • Ensure you convert your poster to pdf prior to sending to the Conference Managers.
    • The file size of the converted pdf should be no larger than 5MB.
    • When using bright or light coloured backgrounds, use a dark type and vice versa.
    • Please include your name (including those of co-authors and department/hospital you work in if applicable).
    • The poster must not have any material that may be deemed offensive or unacceptable for a public display (such as nudity, violence or realistic surgical images).
    • The Organisers reserve the right to not display a poster without providing a specific reason.
    • Authors are responsible for ensuring their poster is collected at the end of conference if they wish to keep it, it will be disposed of otherwise.
    • Content must be presented in a professional manner with no use of colloquialisms where possible.
    • Include references on the poster where appropriate and relevant to the topic.
    • It is essential that the authors have obtained written permission to reproduce graphics and that the sources are acknowledged on the poster. 
    • Posters should be emailed, in the correct format, to jo@outshine.co.nz by Thursday 19 October 2023.
NZATS Submissions

Oral and poster submissions are invited from all NZATS attendees, with the following prizes available. Posters for the NZATS conference 2023 can cover a range of topics, however it should ideally be related to the conference theme “Impact”.

This could include:

  • Research presentation
  • Showcase of work in your region
  • Case study
  • Special interest (equipment, procedures etc)

If you are keen to have a poster shown in conference please submit a planned title and mini abstract of your submission via the online submission process (and select ‘poster’ in the paper type) – instructions outline below.

NZATS Submissions Process, Terms & Conditions

Oral and poster abstract submissions should created on a .doc or .docx format.

  • Oral abstracts should be kept to a limit of 300-400 words (this applies to the main body of the abstract, and excludes abstract title, authors and affiliations, and references). 
  • Poster abstracts should include a planned title, and mini abstract/poster description.
  • You will be asked during the submission process to upload a photograph, and provide a biography for use in the programme.
  • All oral abstract content is published as submitted, ensure you have carefully proofed your document prior to upload. 
  • Accepted oral abstract presentations may also be published on the conference website, on the attendee app and remote conference platform. It is essential that the submitting authors obtain written permission to reproduce graphics and that the sources are acknowledged in the abstract. 
  • All oral and poster presenting authors are required to register, and pay to attend the conference. It is expected that oral presenters will be presenting in-person in Dunedin.
  • Oral presentations will be 20-30 minutes in total, including 5 minutes of question time. 
  • Oral and poster presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts and the Organising Committees’ decision is final. Submissions not accepted for oral presentation, may be considered for poster presentation.
  • Posters will be displayed throughout the conference in printed format at the conference venue, in electronic format on the attendee app and on the remote conference platform for the duration of the on-demand content availability. Format instructions will be emailed to accepted poster authors.
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance by October 3, 2023.
