Christchurch is blessed, with numerous surf breaks, many of which are located right in the suburbs. Sumner is a great spot to venture into the water, coupled with the amenities of Sumner Village. The Learn to Surf surf school is located at the end of Stoke St, which has a gentle beach break.
Only 15 minutes from Christchurch CBD, you can enjoy stunning ocean views while soaking in our five luxurious hot pools. Plus, relax and recover in our plunge pool, steam room and experience beachside views from the sauna. Four sessions are available daily between 10 am - 5.30 pm. Online booking is advisable.
Alongside the Avon River, just a couple of blocks from Cathedral Square, lies the most fun to have come out of the post-quake Rebuild. In the biggest playground south of the equator, more than two hectares are devoted to supplying the means for play and adventure of all sorts, appealing to a wide range of ages. If you're in the mood for a physical callenge, a race, climbing, digging, squirting, bouncing, sliding, spinning or skimming, this is the place to lose time. Big, colourful and full of variety, its clean lines are pleasing to the eye at the same time as providing many kinds of play equipment.
Located just 15 minutes from the city centre, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is at the heart of the city's reputation as the Garden City. Our impressive collection of plants provide a tranquil oasis. From the spring drifts of daffodils, spectacular summer roses and herbaceous border, stunning autumn leaf display and cosy conservatories to warm up in over winter, there's something to delight in every season. The New Zealand Garden also offers an accessible glimpse into the country’s unique wilderness to lose yourself in throughout the year. Entrance to the Botanic Gardens is free.
An unmissable Christchurch experience, the Gondola offers stunning unique views of the city, Lyttelton Harbour and beyond from our summit station situated atop the Port Hills. Take in the spectacular 360-degree views and see Christchurch from a different perspective: gaze at the snow-capped Southern Alps, sprawling Canterbury Plains and the sparkling waters of Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

The Christchurch Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday from 9am - 1pm and is set in the idyllic open air grounds of the historic Riccarton House & Bush. Situated under 100-year-old trees the weekly market winds itself beside the Avon River and follows past the 1856 Homestead and gardens towards the 1.8 hectare protected native bush ‘Puringamatou’.
