Tony Roche

Specialist Anaesthetist at the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, USA.

Tony has clinical interests in trauma, thoracic, vascular and burns anesthesia. His academic interests are those of global health, perioperative medicine, perioperative fluid management and enhanced recover after surgery (ERAS).  He has a longstanding multi-institutional collaboration with Makerere University and Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, as well as with KCM College in Moshi Tanzania. These programs function as host institution-led multidisciplinary, multinational collaborations with focus on development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies to increase surgical and perioperative care capacity in resource-poor settings. 

He has strong ties with the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington and with PATH (, utilizing technologic development and solutions to global health problems affecting surgical disease and critical illness.

He has been, and remains a core team member in the creation of general, spine, and vascular surgery ERAS programmes at Duke University and the University of Washington.  He has chaired numerous
