Workshops
Workshops are a valuable part of the NZ ASM in-person experience. They are not recorded and will not be available for viewing on-demand.
It is important to note some workshops run concurrently, please check your selections during the registration process. If during registration, your preferred workshop is showing as FULL, you will have the opportunity to place yourself on a waiting list to attend. If a space becomes available, the Conference Managers will notify you directly.

Priority for workshop registrations is currently reserved for delegates with full meeting registration. Individuals with a day registration may add themselves to a waitlist by emailing fiona@outshine.co.nz, and subject to availability, may be offered a spot closer to the meeting date.

ThoRAX Workshop – Thoracic Anaesthesia: Refresh and Extend
This interactive day will feature hands-on skills for managing one-lung ventilation, challenging case discussions, simulations, and opportunities to update and upskill. Ideal for anaesthetists, fellows, and advanced trainees who perform occasional thoracic anaesthesia or one-lung ventilation, or who are looking to refresh their knowledge on lung isolation techniques, lung trauma, and thoracic surgery cases.

Anaphylaxis Workshop

This evening session will focus on the timely recognition and management of perioperative anaphylaxis, featuring interactive case-based discussions and team-based response strategies. Can’t Intubate Can’t Oxygenate (CICO) ANZCA Emergency Response Workshop

Case-Based Discussion: Legal dilemmas during clinical practice

Join Iris Reuvecamp and Cam Buchanan for a small-group workshop focused on reflective learning through real-world medicolegal cases relevant to anaesthesia and pain medicine. Resilience and Leadership | Decreasing Stress as a Healthcare Professional

Filled with insights from Nick's book, Work without Stress: Building a resilient mindset for lasting success, you’ll discover that while pressure is inevitable, stress varies depending on your approach to it.
This talk will give insight into your personal coping profile and you'll discover how you can help others in your team and family to deal with the demands of life.
A short pre session assessment must be completed by all participants.
In this session you’ll learn:
- The difference between stress and pressure
- How stress is created and what you can do to avoid it
- Your resilience profile based on eight dimensions
- How leaders and staff can reduce stress even in times of change.

Serious Illness Conversation Guide for the pre-anaesthetic clinic. Part 1 and Part 2

The serious illness conversation guide is a tool designed to support clinicians to have a structured, high-quality conversation with patients and their whánau to inform a shared goal of care or treatment. In this workshop we will explore how to evaluate patient goals and values and how to incorporate these into preoperative planning to ensure we are providing the best outcomes for our patients. This session offers practical strategies to guide meaningful conversations, align care with what matters most, and avoid unwanted or non-beneficial interventions.

Opioid Induced Ventilatory Impairment

This ANZCA CPD-recognised emergency response workshop provides essential training in the prevention, recognition, and management of opioid-induced ventilatory impairment (OIVI). Through interactive case discussions and practical guidance, participants will strengthen their understanding of opioid safety, patient monitoring, and emergency response strategies.

These hands-on Echo Teaching/Cardiac POCUS workshops are best suited to novice or intermediate cardiac scanners. Participants will work in small groups with access to a real-life heart model and a Philips Cardiac POCUS machine. A certificate for 90 minutes of participation will be issued, reflecting your learning, observations, and hands-on Cardiac POCUS scanning during the session.
