A message from Rainbow Place
Rainbow Place is honoured to be the charity of choice for the Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM 2025. Rainbow Place provides free, specialist nursing support for children and young people living with advanced or life-limiting conditions. The service is founded on the belief that a life-limiting diagnosis should never mean a life without dignity, fun, joy, or meaningful experiences.
Rainbow Place is designed to enhance the quality of life for both the child and their family, offering holistic, personalised care that respects each family’s unique journey.
Paediatric palliative care differs significantly from adult palliative care. It does not always indicate that end-of-life is near. Rather, it acknowledges that the child has a serious, potentially life-limiting condition which may be incurable. Some children may receive care from Rainbow Place over many years, continuing to pursue curative treatments while benefiting from the additional support provided.
Rainbow Place works in close partnership with each child’s medical team, offering a collaborative and flexible approach that prioritises comfort, continuity, and compassion. The team is committed to walking alongside families – offering expert guidance, advocacy, respite, and unwavering support, without judgement.
How can you help?
A key focus for Rainbow Place is to provide joyful and meaningful experiences for the children in their care. Many of these children are regular visitors to Rainbow Place’s Hamilton site for respite stays and family wellbeing and connection morning teas. Rainbow Place has a vision to develop a multi-sensory environment for these children by creating a space full of resources which engage their senses of sight, touch, sound and movement.
Funds raised from the Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM will be used to establish this special space, to be enjoyed by Rainbow Place children and their whānau for years to come.
Rainbow Place will have picture boards showing how this multi-sensory space will look and be used in their exhibition stand at the NZ ASM. You can visit their booth anytime while at the NZ ASM and support this initiative by purchasing one of their beautiful Rainbow Bears.
How we will be supporting Rainbow Place during the meeting:
The Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM will be supporting Rainbow Place by:
- Providing a monetary donation to Rainbow Place in lieu of speaker gifts.
- Promoting Rainbow Place through the NZ ASM’s QR Quest.
- Welcoming Rainbow Place to our industry exhibition space.
