Our meeting dinner plans are well underway and promises to be a truly unique NZ ASM dinner experience!
We recommend booking your social function tickets during your registration, even when included in the registration cost. While we appreciate circumstances may change spaces are allocated first in first served and we cannot guarantee late requests to attend social functions. Attendance numbers are required in advance of the meeting, and the earlier we are advised of your attendance the better.
Meeting Dinner: Hobbiton™ Movie Set
Friday, November 14: from 5pm
You’re invited to join us at the Hobbiton™ Movie Set for a truly unique NZ ASM dinner experience!
Immerse yourself in the magic of The Shire™ as twilight sets with a guided tour through the iconic movie set. You’ll wander along the picturesque paths of Bagshot Row™, admire the recently opened charming Hobbit Holes™, and relive the magic of the films in an idyllic setting. Your journey will lead you to The Millhouse and across the stone bridge to the famed Green Dragon™ Inn and Bywater Beer Garden Marketplace for the evening’s festivities.
The marketplace will come alive for the night with food stalls and substantial canapés for our evening meal, accompanied by the Hobbit Southfarthing range of beverages on tap, a selection of wines and various non-alcoholic beverage options.
This extraordinary event is perfect for fans of Tolkien’s world or anyone seeking a unique and memorable evening in a setting unlike any other. Don’t miss the chance to live out your own Hobbit adventure under the stars.
Numbers are limited. Make sure to confirm your attendance during your NZ ASM registration. Please read the key details below, there is important information all attendees need to be aware of to make sure you have a magical Hobbiton experience.
Tickets:
- Tickets are included in the Full Attendee registration fees. However, you must indicate attendance during registration as numbers are limited.
- Day delegates and partners may purchase tickets for $250 per person.
- Attendees must be 18 and over. If you’re staying on in Waikato and would like to book a visit with your family, this can be done through the Hobbiton website here.
Important information:
- We strongly encourage attendees to use the provided transport from Hamilton. There is no public vehicle access to the venue.
- Transport departs Hamilton from Claudelands and conference hotels at 5pm, and return at 10pm.
- If you must drive to Hobbiton, please talk to one of the Conference Organisers as we will need to arrange your pickup to enter the venue.
- Please note that due to requirements of the venue guests cannot arrive late or leave earlier than our scheduled shuttle times.
- Entry is only available through the guided tour on arrival. The tours are a gentle wander along gravel paths. We recommend suitable footwear.
What to wear:
- Middle-earth attire is optional. For those keen to embrace the theme of our destination, local costume hire Waikato Costume Hire will stay open late until 8.30pm on Thursday night so you can pick out your outfit for the evening.
- This isn’t a formal event. Bring comfortable footwear and warmer clothing and/or a jacket so you can comfortably enjoy the tour of The Shire™ and the mixture of indoor and outdoor venues.
This is an all-weather event:
- While we hope for a beautifully clear evening we cannot predict the weather. However, if it is raining, umbrellas are provided for the tour of The Shire™ and there are ample indoor venues for the evening’s festivities.

Industry Exhibition, Claudelands Event Centre
Unwind with us at the end of Day one! Connect with fellow attendees and industry partners in a relaxed, social setting. Enjoy live music from Rubita and special guest performers as we wrap up our first day at NZSAM25.
Unwind & explore Kirikiriroa
The Local Organising Committee has lined up some fun optional group activities to help you make the most of your time in Kirikiriroa Hamilton!
How it works:
- Express your interest by 29 October
- If we have enough interest, then local facilitators will get in touch by 4 November to confirm your spot.
- You pay on the day, directly to the supplier.
All activities require a minimum number of participants to go ahead. Prices listed are indicative per person.

Boon Arts Tour
Walking street art tour
Wednesday 12 November, 4pm-5.30pm
$20 per person
Explore the vibrant streets of Hamilton, where art comes alive and tells stories that leave a lasting impression on an exclusive Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM group tour led by a local mural artist.
Start at the Novotel Hotel and finish at Wonder Horse cocktail bar.

Pub night at the Roaming Giant
Casual pub evening
Thursday 13 November, 6.30pm
Pay as you go.
Deliberate on what you’ve learnt during day one at Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia ASM with colleagues from across the motu and further afield in this casual night out just across the road from our meeting venue, Claudelands Event Centre.

Golf
Saturday 15 November, afternoon
Local courses
Costs: Club hire (if required), greens fees
Tee off after the meeting finishes for a full afternoon on a local course with anaesthetists from the area.

Mountain Biking in Rotorua
Sunday 16 November, full day.
Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest and/or Skyline, Rotorua
Costs: Bike hire (if required)
Guided by local Waikato anaesthetists, head over to Rotorua for a full day riding with a possible hot soak and beer before returning home. Either self-drive or possible ride-share with others in the group from Hamilton to Rotorua return.
